The Little Rock (AR) Chapter, The Links, Incorporated, Founded January 1956
The Links, Incorporated, is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of extraordinary women who are committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry.
The Links organization was founded on November 9, 1946, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Sarah Scott and Margaret Hawkins summoned a group of influential decision makers and leaders to link their friendship and resources to form a chain of strength. Members represent the world of business, healthcare providers, civic leaders, government, media, academia, philanthropy, the arts and more. The organization was incorporated in 1951. The Little Rock (AR) Chapter was chartered in 1956.
Members of The Links, Incorporated, are influential decision makers and opinion leaders. The Links, Incorporated, has attracted many distinguished women who are individual achievers and have made a difference in their communities and the world. They are business and civic leaders, educators, role models, mentors, activists and volunteers who work towards a common vision by engaging likeminded organizations and individuals for partnerships.
Links Members contribute over one million service hours annually with the Little Rock (AR) Chapter averaging 4,000 hours. The organization has donated one-million-dollar grants to six organizations, including St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Smithsonian National Museum of African American Culture and History, and the United Negro College fund.
The outstanding programming of The Links, Incorporated, has five facets, which include: The Arts, Health and Human Services, International Trends and Services, National Trends and Services and Services to Youth. The programs are implemented through strategies, such as public information and education, economic development, and public policy campaigns.
